Newsletter Issue #1-2026

KEYSTONE In Action is the quarterly e-Newsletter of the EU-funded KEYSTONE project, which supports the digital transformation of compliance operations of both road enforcement authorities and logistics operators.

Mark your calendars for 19 May 2026: KEYSTONE Final Event at TRA 2026

From research to real-world impact: discover how the final results of KEYSTONE and of our sister project SETO are advancing smarter, paperless enforcement compliance in transport and logistics.

Join us in Budapest, Hungary, on 19 May 2026 for the Final Event of KEYSTONE, featuring our sister project, SETO, held as part of the official TRA2026 programme.

Titled “From Data to Action: Enabling Paperless and Smart Digital Enforcement Compliance in Transport & Logistics – Key Lessons and Next Steps from the EU-Funded KEYSTONE and SETO Projects”, the event marks the culmination of three years of research, development and pilot implementation under KEYSTONE.

During this final conference, we will present the project’s main results, milestones and policy recommendations, highlighting how KEYSTONE, together with SETO, advances digital solutions that support smarter, paperless, greener, safer and more efficient enforcement compliance in transport and logistics operations.

Please note that prior registration for the TRA 2026 conference is required to attend this event.

KEYSTONE Reaches Major Milestone with Live Web App Demonstration for Stakeholders

On 25 February 2026, KEYSTONE partners officially presented the web app to the KEYSTONE stakeholder register members.

KEYSTONE partners presented the Smart Enforcement Web App to stakeholders during an online webinar organised by Cefriel, a KEYSTONE project partner.

With more than 40 participants attending, the session marked the first external demonstration of the web app. The live demo showcased its real-time functionality and operational value, sparking discussion on interoperability, scalability, system integration, and long-term sustainability.

A short questionnaire will be shared with participants to collect feedback on the app’s usability and performance.

KEYSTONE Webinar Highlights Cooperation Between EU Projects on Digital Transport Innovation: Proceedings & Recording Available

On 29 October 2026, the KEYSTONE, SETO and HOLOGISTICS projects highlighted digital solutions for the future of road transport control.

On 29 October 2025, the webinar “Digital technologies for road transport control: innovation, interoperability and European use cases” took place. The webinar brought together expert speakers from three EU-funded initiatives: KEYSTONE, SETO, and HOLOGISTICS, to share insights on how digital solutions are shaping the future of road transport control in Europe.

With over 60 participants, the webinar highlighted the value of collaboration among European initiatives in advancing digitalisation, interoperability, and sustainability in transport and logistics.

Digital Data Exchange Between Logistics Terminals and Public Enforcement Authorities: Insights from the CIM Intermodal Pilot

EU Projects KEYSTONE and eFTI4EU Successfully Complete Italy’s First Paperless Freight Transport Pilot

Discover insights of the conclusion of the road transport pilot.

Italy’s first fully paperless freight transport pilot has been successfully completed under the collaboration of KEYSTONE and eFTI4EU, two EU-funded initiatives.

Led by Gruber Logistics, a KEYSTONE project partner, the transport pilot tested the KEYSTONE web application in a real operational setting, integrating it with the eFTI platform, the eFTI Gate Italy node and the Port Community System of La Spezia. This live interconnection enabled the fully digital exchange of freight transport information between public and private systems.

Learn key insights from the conclusion of the intermodal pilot.

In parallel to the road pilot, KEYSTONE implemented an intermodal pilot led by CIM Interporto di Novara, a KEYSTONE project partner, focusing on digital data exchange between a rail–road terminal and public enforcement authorities.

Through the KEYSTONE web application, enforcement officers could access vehicle, driver and goods-related information before trucks exited the terminal. Importantly, the pilot enabled the digital sharing of terminal operating data, including Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) information from rail services along the Rhine–Alpine Corridor.

By integrating rail and road data in a live terminal environment, the pilot demonstrated how interoperable digital solutions can strengthen pre-exit controls, improve inspection efficiency and enhance coordination across intermodal freight operations.
