KEYSTONE Webinar Highlights Cooperation Between EU Projects on Digital Transport Innovation: Proceedings & Recording Available
Speakers and Moderator of the Webinar Digital Technologies for Road Transport Control: Innovation, Interoperability and European Use Cases”.
On 29 October 2025, the KEYSTONE webinar “Digital Technologies for Road Transport Control: Innovation, Interoperability and European Use Cases” took place online.
Alessio Sitran (AUMOVIO) presenting digital technologies shaping road transport control.
Organised by Cefriel, a KEYSTONE partner, the event brought together expert speakers from three EU-funded initiatives: KEYSTONE, SETO, and HOLOGISTICS, who shared their insights on how digital solutions are shaping the future of road transport control.
The webinar was coordinated by Paulo Cantillano-Lizana from ICOOR.
The session opened with a brief tour de table, during which all participants introduced their projects. Alessio Sitran from AUMOVIO, a member of the KEYSTONE stakeholder community, explained how digital innovations, in particular, the smart tachograph, are transforming road transport in Europe. He discussed the importance and legal evolution of the tackograph, as well as current challenges. Finally, he shared his vision for a more holistic, fair, and transparent enforcement ecosystem for drivers, operators, authorities, and society at large.
The following presentations focused on the project’s two pilot activities. Massimo Arnese from CIM Interporto di Novara described how the intermodal pilot is testing digital coordination between the CIM terminal and public enforcement authorities. The pilot connects data from the WOLF logistics platform and the KEYSTONE web application, enabling authorities to access real-time information on vehicles, goods, and drivers before they exit the terminal.
Next, Fabrizio Borgogna from Gruber Logistics presented the transport pilot currently taking place at the Port of La Spezia, where Gruber Logistics connects its transport management system with port authorities through KEYSTONE, enabling automated Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) sharing and digital eCMR documentation.
Beatriz Martínez Pastor from University College Dublin, then introduced the SETO project, which aims to develop a digital solution to help authorities efficiently enforce transport and safety regulations in real time. Two living labs, in France and Belgium will test the solution. Following this, Sasa Klopanovic from Mainflux Labs, presented the project’s technical aspects and explained how SETO seeks to create a unified platform connecting data from IoT devices, onboard units, Weigh-In-Motion (WIM) systems, and European regulatory databases to support real-time enforcement and interoperability between authorities and logistics operators.
Julian Stephens presenting the HOLOGISTICS project.
Finally, Julian Stephens from MJC2, representing the HOLOGISTICS project, introduced this newly launched initiative, which aims to demonstrate how innovative, open-standard logistics solutions and technologies can accelerate freight transport decarbonisation while improving operational efficiency. The project focuses on strategies such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving multimodal logistics through real-time scheduling algorithms, and supporting zero-emission transport solutions and modal shifts.
More than 60 participants attended the webinar, underlining the importance of collaboration among European initiatives to advance digital innovation, interoperability, and sustainability in the transport sector.
