KEYSTONE In Action
Newsletter #2-2026
This is the final edition of KEYSTONE In Action, the quarterly e-newsletter of the EU-funded KEYSTONE Project, which has consistently shared updates on the project's progress and key activities. Thank you for reading and for following the KEYSTONE journey over the past three years!
From Data to Action: KEYSTONE Final Event Featuring Sister Project SETO Held at TRA 2026
Participants explored the lessons learned, pilot results and the future of smart enforcement compliance in transport and logistics.
Turning Digital Innovation into Practical Solutions: Discover the KEYSTONE Web App
Take a closer look at the KEYSTONE Web App and its benefits for the transport ecosystem.
The video presents the three dedicated interfaces of the Web App for drivers, road enforcement authorities and port authorities, as well as the two pilots. By improving visibility, enabling secure document exchange and supporting more efficient inspections, the KEYSTONE Web App demonstrates the benefits of digitalisation for the entire transport ecosystem.
On 19 May 2026, KEYSTONE celebrated its conclusion with a dedicated final event bringing together more than 75 participants and featuring insights from its sister project SETO, at TRA 2026 in Budapest, Hungary. Through keynote presentations and panel discussions, experts explored the role of interoperability, trusted data exchange and digital enforcement in shaping the future of freight transport.
The event showcased the KEYSTONE Web App, API methodology and the results of the road and intermodal pilots, highlighting significant improvements in inspection efficiency and paperless operations. Throughout TRA 2026, KEYSTONE was also present in the Digital & Cross-Cutting Innovation thematic area, within the ALICE Logistics Innovation Village.
Reflecting on Three Years of Achievements: KEYSTONE Holds Final Review Meeting
Project partners, along with the Project Officer, reviewed the project's achievements and discussed the long-term impact of its digital solutions.
On 15 June 2026, KEYSTONE partners held a meeting with Dr Katerina Deliali, KEYSTONE’s Project Officer from CINEA, to reflect on the achievements and milestones reached over the past three years.
Discussions also focused on the sustainability and future uptake of the project's solutions, which are expected to support the implementation of the upcoming eFTI regulatoryframework and the continued digitalisation of the European logistics sector.
From Vision to Reality: The Story of the KEYSTONE Pilots
Two real-world pilots proved that trusted data sharing can support smarter and more efficient freight transport.
KEYSTONE successfully validated its solution through two real-world pilots that were conducted in operational environments.
The demonstrations showed how digital interoperability can support smarter enforcement, reduce administrative burden and improve transport efficiency.
By enabling secure, real-time data exchange between logistics operators and public authorities, the pilots demonstrated that digital compliance and paperless operations are no longer future concepts but operational realities. The results provide a blueprint for the wider deployment of interoperable freight transport corridors across Europe.
Bridging Theory and Practice: How KEYSTONE Advances Plug & Play Interoperability in European Logistics
The project's API Reference Model provides a practical blueprint for connecting eFTI, eCMR and enforcement systems through interoperable interfaces.
Through its work on Plug & Play interoperability and continuous engagement with the Digital Transport and Logistics Forum (DTLF), KEYSTONE has contributed to bridging the gap between conceptual frameworks and their practical deployment.
Expert feedback and policy engagement helped refine the KEYSTONE API Reference Model, highlighting the importance of modularity, scalability and alignment with emerging frameworks such as eFTI and data spaces. The work demonstrates that Plug & Play interoperability is not only a technical concept, but also a key design principle for the future of European transport and logistics.
KEYSTONE's Roadmap for Europe's Digital Transport Ecosystem
The White Paper presents evidence-based recommendations to accelerate the large-scale deployment of interoperable transport systems.
To address fragmentation across regulations and digital systems, KEYSTONE partner TTS Italia released the White Paper “Evidence-Based Policy Recommendations and Roadmap for Large-Scale Deployment of Digital Transport Ecosystems”.
Drawing on project findings, stakeholder engagement and pilot results, the publication proposes a practical roadmap to support regulatory harmonisation, interoperability by design and stronger public-private collaboration. The recommendations aim to facilitate the transition towards scalable and standardised digital transport ecosystems across Europe.
